Luchando por la fe

Recibí el siguiente emilio en estos días y se me revolcó el epididimo. Sé que el papel aguanta todo lo que se le escriba encima, y que no debería hacer caso de estas idioteces, pero es que el simple hecho de recibirlo implica que alguien, al menos una persona, se tomó la molestia de leerlo y considerarlo lo suficientemente convincente como para re- enviarlo. A menos que haya sido uno de esos seres que re- envían cualquier cosa sin pensar. Honestamente, no sé a quién temerle más.

Immediately after creating the Declaration of Independence, theContinental Congress voted to purchase and import 20,000 copies of Scripture for the people of this nation. Patrick Henry, who is calledthe firebrand of the American Revolution, is still remembered for his words, "Give me liberty or give me death"; but in current textbooks, the context of these words is omitted. Here is what he actually said:"An appeal to arms and the God of hosts is all that is left us. But we shall not fight our battle alone. There is a just God that presides over the destinies of nations. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone. Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it Almighty God. I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death." These sentences have been erased from our textbooks. Was Patrick Henry a Christian? The following year, 1776, he wrote this:"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great Nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here." Consider these words that Thomas Jefferson wrote in the front of his well-worn Bible:"I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus. I have little doubt that our whole country will soon be rallied to the unity of our creator." He was also the chairman of the American Bible Society, which he considered his highest and most important role. On July 4, 1821, President Adams said, "The highest glory of the American Revolution was this:"It connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity."Calvin Coolidge, our 30th President of the United States reaffirmed this truth when he wrote, "The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country."In 1782, the United States Congress voted this resolution:"The Congress of the United States recommends and approves the Holy Bible for use in all schools." William Holmes McGuffey is the author of the McGuffey Reader, which was used for over 100 years in our public schools, with over 125 million copies sold, until it was stopped in 1963. President Lincoln called him the "Schoolmaster of the Nation." Listen to these words of Mr.McGuffey:"The Christian religion is the religion of our country. From it are derived our nation, on the character of God, on the great moral Governor of the universe. On its doctrines are founded the peculiarities of our free Institutions. From no source has the author drawn more conspicuously than from the sacred Scriptures. For all these extracts from the Bible, I make no apology."Of the first 108 universities founded in America, 106 were distinctly Christian, including the first, Harvard University, chartered in 1636. In the original Harvard Student Handbook, rule number 1 was that students seeking entrance must know Latin and Greek so that they could study the Scriptures:"Let every student be plainly instructed and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and studies, is, to know God and Jesus Christ, which is eternal life, John 17:3; and therefore to lay Jesus Christ as the only foundation for our children to follow the moral principles of the Ten Commandments."James Madison, the primary author of the Constitution of the United States, said this:"We have staked the whole future of all our political constitutions upon the capacity of each of ourselves to govern ourselves according to the moral principles of the Ten Commandments."Most of what you read in this article has been erased from ourtextbooks. Revisionists have rewritten history to remove the truth about our country's Christian roots. You are encouraged to share this with others, so that the truth of our nation's history will be told. This information shared is only a drop of cement to help secure a foundation that is crumbling daily in a losing war that most of the country doesn't even know is raging on, in, and around them.

La cocina de Sartre

Rebuscando en el Aleph, encontré ésto que está de lo más interesante. Un libro de cocina que es al mismo tiempo un libro de filosofía, ¿o visceversa? Bueno, lo que importa es que de alguna forma se juntaron dos de mis placeres. Les recomiendo la cacerola de atún.

In God They Trust

Encontré esta mina de sabiduría de Pat Robertson y la derecha cristiana gringa el otro día y recordé un incidente que me sucedió no hace mucho en casa de uno de mis tíos. Me pregunta él si yo estaba asistiendo a la iglesia. Le dije que no.

- ¿Por qué? Mira que te criaste en el evangelio...

- Ya esas cosas no me interesan.

- ¡MUCHACHO, TU ESTAS MAL! ¡TIENES QUE BUSCAR DEL SEñOR!

- Bueno, yo trato de ser el mejor ser humano que puedo...

- ¡NO IMPORTA! ¡TIENES QUE IR A LA IGLESIA! Mira chico, es una pena que tú te criaras en los caminos del señor y te hayas olvidado de él. Estás bien mal, viviendo en pecado. Tienes que arrepentirte y volver a la iglesia porque.....

En este punto de la "conversación" lo único que escuchaba era "blah blah blah blah blah blah... " mientras pensaba que este mismo tío tan piadoso tiene un hijo preso por tráfico de armas y asesinato en primer grado. No sólo eso, sino que el otro día este primo llama a mi hermano desde su celular (enfatizo en que el tipo esta preso) para coordinar el arreglo del carro de su novia. Mi primo le dice a mi hermano que unas personas le llevarán las piezas y el dinero que necesite (vuelvo y digo que el tipo está preso por asesinato y tráfico de armas). A menos que tener celular sea un derecho penitenciario recién adquirido por los ñetas, no tengo la menor duda de que el susodicho primo está bichoteando elegantemente desde la cárcel. Y creo que se me olvidó decir que mi tío le está criando sus dos hijas gemelas, comprometiendose financieramente después que se jodió toda su vida para retirarse en paz. No sé, no sé.

No dije nada por aquello de no crear fricción entre este tío piadoso y mi padre. En el camino de regreso a casa le dije a mi padre: fíjate, yo nunca te he dado problemas con la ley, ni te he traido líos de faldas a casa. Mucho menos te he tirado nietos en la sala para que me los críes. He estudiado, trabajo, y todo lo que dices de mí lo dices con orgullo. Y este tipo se atreve a condenarme al infierno porque no voy a la iglesia, como su hijo.

Mi padre, con esa sabiduría espartana de hombre de campo sólo me respondió: para que tú veas.

Al ver el paso del Tiempo...

Este "cuento" es parte de lo que intentó llegar a ser un libro de textos interconectados entre sí por la sola virtud de estar todos en la misma libreta y haber sido escritos con la misma tinta, hace como unos 14 años. Por suerte éste ha sido el único sobreviviente a la hecatombe del Tiempo. Y hablando del rey de Roma, aquí lo dejo como testigo de que, contra toda predicción yiyeavilista, toda vía estoy aquí.

Soy una roca. Inmutable, inmóvil, imponente. He visto el paso lento de centurias sobre mí, una roca en una isla desierta. Una mañana de abril, la timidez de una florecilla surgió de la ladera de mi macizo cuerpo. La observé curioso, mientras los rayos del sol abrían lentamente sus pétalos como dedos de un niño jugando con el viento. La observé, sí, como se observa una lágrima en los ojos de un Coloso. Al mediodía sus pétalos eran arrastrados por el viento hacia los confines del mar. Sí, soy una roca milenaria. ¿Que cuando voy a morir? Tal vez cuando el tiempo detenga su marcha en un minuto incambiable, apocalíptico. Entonces yo fluiré, una masa viscosa primero, y luego, una corriente libre que cubrirá un mar petrificado y jugará entre las manos del viento convertidas en cristal.

Pero soy una roca. Y mi trabajo es ver el paso del tiempo. Una vez desperté de un largo sueño y sentí el tumulto de una selva sobre mi cuerpo. Animalejos me hacían cosquillas mientras corrían entre la hojarasca. Soy una roca. Y vi cómo los arbustos se hicieron árboles. Y vi los árboles beber la lluvia que antes corría por mi rostro. Hasta que no hubo más lluvia. Y vi los árboles caer, uno a uno. El viento bebió sus cenizas, hasta que sólo quedó una roca en una isla desierta.

Ya sabes que soy una roca. Quédate conmigo y te contaré lo que he visto mientras llega tu muerte. Entonces esperaré tu resurrección para seguir contandote las edades. Porque soy una roca, y mi trabajo es ver el paso del tiempo. . .
